Forgotten characters like Peg Leg Pete and Horace Horsecollar resurface, often as friends, sometimes as enemies, always in unexpected forms. The Wasteland Mickey enters (which he also created) is a dark take on Disney lore, conjuring the Disney archive in darker hues. For a self-titled 'epic' that toys with notions of good, evil, and heroism, Epic Mickey's fabled mouse is a reluctant hero.

He'd presumably have continued his happy hibernation if he hadn't been abducted by his evil creation, the Shadow Blot, and dragged back through his mirror down into the woeful world of the Wasteland. The rodent wreaks havoc with paint thinner trying to undo the damage he's done before fleeing the lair back to his bed, where he sleeps, apparently quite soundly, for many, many years. Disney's Epic Mickey ($49) for the Nintendo Wii opens with the not-so-modest mouse creeping through his mirror into Yen Sid's study, tampering with the sorcerer's charmed paintbrush, and unleashing an inky menace upon the old man's magical model.
